The FSI Management Buyout
International FM and workplace consultancy FSI has announced a Management Buyout by a team led by the business’ existing Operational Directors. The move will allow the business to continue to expand and develop to become the UK’s first choice supplier of CAFM led workplace solutions. “This is a major milestone in achieving our vision to be the first choice consultancy in the market, offering best in breed technology based solutions,” said Jim Mitchell who has been Managing Director at FSI for two years and has led the MBO. “The core team that has driven the re-engineering and re-launch of the business as a total solutions provider over the last two years is now able to entirely focus on its future development”. The new management board of Directors consists of the operational team that has transformed FSI from a CAFM product development operation to a total service solutions business. Board Directors Jim Mitchell (Managing Director), Karl Horner (Technical Director) and Compton Darlington (Operations Director) have been central to FSI’s emergence as a major player in the market and their roles over the last two years have helped the business significantly increase profits. “The future looks very exciting for FSI,” continued Jim Mitchell. “As the first business in our class to have a dedicated Business Relationship Manager, we are redefining best practice in customer care. Our technology platform is being developed with Microsoft’s .net technology to ensure solutions are future proofed and totally flexible. We are increasingly talking to customers about sharing risk through innovative Performance Contracting style arrangements where FSI takes its commercial rewards from the benefits it delivers to an organisation’s facilities operating costs”. The existing team will be enhanced by Pat Curran, who joins the new Board as FSI’s Chairman. Pat has a considerable track record in developing bright, innovative businesses and is currently Chief Executive Officer of Bell Group plc. The other new board member is Financial Director and Company Secretary Chris Harvey, who will take a strategic financial management role. FSI was previously owned by two shareholders, Dave Curran and Len Smith. Both will retain an interest in the business. FSI’s client portfolio covers the whole spectrum of outsourcing and FM and is involved in international projects across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. FSI’s capability also covers Asia-Pacific with a stronghold in Hong Kong and growing presence in Australia. “We are now looking for opportunities to develop solutions with FM partners across the board,” concluded Jim Mitchell. “Increasingly we are being asked to provide technology driven management control ‘backbones’ to major PFI and PPP bids where access to accurate management information is critical”. Core Management Team info Jim Mitchell joined FSI in 1994 having spent a number of years in FM with companies such as ITN and Broadgate Estates Management. He was instrumental in developing the consultancy and implementation services for which FSI is now renowned. He is a keen advocate of maximising the use of information as a key tool in business decision making. Karl Horner joined FSI nine years ago to develop the customer support framework. He provides senior technical consultancy to FSI’s clients and has also been an associate director of R&D.
