Sector-Specific Facilities Management at the fore of industry seminar

The latest Tune in to FM seminar hosted by FSI at Airbus on 8th September focussed on Sector-Specific Facilities Management.

The seminar, Chaired by FSI’s Business Solutions Adviser Jon Clark, opened with a presentation by Mike Doolan, Head of Service-Call Centres at Carillion plc.  Mike discussed the services provided by Carillion, one of the UK’s leading building and construction services companies, and addressed the issues and importance of Facilities Management in the IT/Technology sector.  Carillion’s clients are cost-driven; therefore it is important for Carillion to be seen to use effective technology to provide their service.  To that end, Carillion, the overall winners of the 2005 PFM awards with client Telewest, both use Concept™ at the heart of their business processes.

This was followed by a presentation by Peter Gorman, Facilities Director at First Engineering Ltd, who addressed Facilities Management in the Rail sector.  Contracts have been secured thanks to the partnership between Facilities Management and the Rail sector and, in the wake of privatisation, a more structured approach has been implemented, which includes the use of Concept™ by First Engineering Ltd.

Alan Steer, Solution Owner – New Business Development Team at United Utilities Facilities Management Limited, continued the theme, discussing Facilities Management in the Utilities sector.  As a very competitive market, United Utilities have to drive down costs to the regulated market, as well as identifying opportunities and key targets.  Concept™ was chosen as it meets both the business and customer needs of United Utilities.

Finally, Dave Tayler, Performance & Planning Engineer at Airbus UK Bristol, discussed the major Airbus milestones, and the use of Concept™ at site.  The Airbus Filton and Broughton sites have used Concept™ since 1995, as it was regarded as the best fit for the Airbus business.

Developed and hosted by Concept™ CAFM developers FSI (FM Solutions) Ltd, the Tune in to FM seminar series was established in 2004 to promote dialogue between users and systems developers.  The free seminar series not only encourages the sharing of best practice between delegates from a wide range of industry sectors, but also brings to the fore the latest developments within the FM industry.

Now in its second year, the series kicked off its 2005 programme at the Ministry of Defence’s headquarters in Whitehall on 8th April, followed by Anglia Polytechnic University on 10th June.  The final seminar for 2005 will take place at The Natural History Museum on 11th November.
“The success of the Tune in to FM series has been phenomenal,” explains Compton Darlington, FSI’s Business Development Director. “Obviously we were acutely aware of the need for a specific platform to be developed; one that would not only promote a better understanding of asset management and transparency of FM services across industry sectors, but also allow the exchange of ideas, experiences and even frustrations to ultimately enhance working environments.  But we have been truly surprised at the levels of interest from prospective attendees.”

The seminar series will continue throughout 2006.  Should you wish to attend, please contact:
